ABOUT THE RACE
The Austur Ultra race takes place across one of the most magnificent and diverse cross-sections of Icelandic nature. From highland meadows to grassy valleys in the wilderness. Past colorful landslides, a rugged glacial river gorge and lush birch forests.
Three distances are available, 53 km, 18 km and 9 km. The finish line for all distances is in Hvannagil. All cars can get there and there is also parking. Hvannagil is about a 10-minute drive from Highway 1 and competitors drive themselves to the finish line.
There will be drinking stations at Eskifellsbrú, Kollumúli and in Hvannagil and you can see more information about drinking stations under "The Running Route". The finish line will be at the campsite at Stafafell and there will be music and atmosphere while the competitors are grilled.
There are campsites and other accommodation in the area, but there are also many accommodation options in Höfn, which is about a 25-minute drive from the venue. Various information can be found on the Austur Ultra Facebook page and also Stafafells .
Race data collection will take place July 29th - 31st at the Hlaupar store and at the starting line one hour before the start of each race route.
Information on the race day, race management and finish line will be at the Stafafell campsite. Timing is in the hands of timataka.net and uses timing equipment from MyLaps.

The terms of the race are as follows:
I am in good enough condition both physically and mentally to participate in and complete the Eastern Ultra.
I confirm that I have understood the difficulty level of the Eastern Ultra, which runs through the highlands of Iceland where the weather can be bad and the terrain difficult.
I meet the safety equipment requirements and will have an aluminum blanket, a whistle, and a phone with the emergency number 112 saved along with the phone number of the race director (only applies to 50 km races).
I understand that the role of the race organizers and staff is not to "rescue" participants who are ill-prepared in terms of training, nutrition, or lack appropriate equipment. Each runner's safety is their own responsibility and they must have the skills to deal with unexpected situations.
I agree to follow the instructions provided by race staff and accept any assistance they deem necessary for my safety and that of others.
As a participant in Austur Ultra 2024, I waive all rights to compensation from Megin ehf. (the organizer of the race), employees and other partners of the race, due to injuries, illnesses, accidents, or other unforeseen events that I may experience during Austur Ultra.
